How this works

Listen to Joanne read the chapter using the audio player above, and then dive into the corresponding group discussion questions below.

Chapter 8 - Group Discussion Questions

  1. Keeping in mind the words security, reunion and pleasure, what are two things you can do that would help reflect the hope of heaven at your table?

  2. What’s the strongest food you’ve ever tasted? What country’s food would you like to try?

  3. What meal or food-related tradition do you hae now or had growing up?

  4. Choose one practical suggestion in this chapter that stretches you and is meaningful to you. Explain why.

  5. Describe some attribute of the table we will enjoy in heaven.

Going Deeper

  1. How does letting others serve you now prepare your heart for the time when Jesus will serve you in heaven?

  2. The next time you eat a particularly delicious meal, take time to write Jesus a ltter of thanks, expressing your anticipation of heaven to come.

  3. Delayed gratification intensifies our longings. Just as we wait for heaven, many in the world are waiting for a meal. Serve your family just rice once a week for a month. Use the table time to remember the needs of the hungry in prayer. Donate to ta food shelf or other ministry the money you saved by just eating rice.

  4. Meditate on Revelation 19:9, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”  Whose salvation are you praying for?

Taste and See

We don’t know exactly when Jesus will come back to bring to heaven his bride, the church, but his promise of love is every believer’s true hope. One of the most requested recipes from my kitchen is the beverage we served at both our daughter’s weddings.  Whatever joyful celebration you host, consider using this refreshing slushy drink.

Wedding Punch Slush

  • 1 small frozen can orange juice

  • 1 small frozen can lemonade

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

  • ¾ cup sugar

  • 9 cup water

  • 1 liter of ginger ale or sprite.  (for less sugar, use diet or mix with sparkling water)

Combine all ingredients but Sprite or ginger ale. Freeze until slushy. Add Sprite or ginger ale. Note; If you freeze the punch solid, thaw to a slush before serving. 25 small servings
